ESPN Shifting Some SportsCenter Programming to ESPNEWS

by Milton KentFiled under: Sports Business and MediaESPN announced Monday its plan to slow ratings declines on ESPNEWS, its 24-hour-a-day sports headline news channel: Add SportsCenter.

Beginning August 30, the Worldwide Leader will begin airing blocks of its signature sports news program to ESPNEWS, which has been losing audience in recent months,. SportsCenter will run from 3-6 p.m. and from 7-11 p.m. EDT each weekday on ESPNEWS. That's in addition to the airings from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as the 6 p.m., 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. shows and the reruns of the late show on ESPN.

John Skipper, an ESPN executive, said in a recent interview that changes were coming to ESPNEWS and ESPN Classic, which has also seen audience erosion.
