Clarke MacArthur Signs With Toronto

Filed under: Maple Leafs, Sabres, Thrashers, NHL Free AgencyOne of the most surprising arbitration results this summer was the $2.4 million Clarke MacArthur was awarded in his hearing with the Atlanta Thrashers. The team ultimately decided to walk away from the ruling, allowing the 25-year-old winger to become an unrestricted free agent. On Saturday, he inked a one-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs, worth a reported $1.1 million according to Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos.

With Paul Kariya sitting out the 2010-11 season due to post-concussion syndrome, the only remaining free agents that scored more goals than MacArthur's 16 last season were Lee Stempniak (28) and Bill Guerin (21). Veteran Owen Nolan also scored 16.

All things considered (like the remaining free agent market), it's a pretty decent signing for the Leafs and at a solid price (at least when compared to the $2.4 million he was awarded in arbitration). Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
