Filed under: Jets, NFL Training CampThe Jets are facing the increasing possibility that Darrelle Revis won't play for the team this season. As the star cornerback continues to hold out, Jets owner Woody Johnson admitted Monday that he doesn't think the team will reach a new deal with Revis before the start of the season. "The answer is no," Johnson told the New York Daily News.
Johnson took it one step further in an interview on ESPN's E:60 program, the Daily News reported. When asked whether he thought Revis would play for the Jets in 2010, Johnson replied: "My gut feeling is, I would say no."
If Revis doesn't show at camp by midnight Tuesday, he'll lose one year of service toward his eligibility for free agency, according to the rules of the current labor agreement.
The two-time Pro Bowler's representatives met with GM Mike Tannenbaum last Friday, but Johnson said no progress has been made in contract talks. Revis, who is slated to earn $1 million this season, has three years remaining on his current deal but wants to be the highest-paid cornerback in the league.snugpak
