Tyler Seguin, Second Overall Pick, Signs Entry-Level Contract With Bruins

Filed under: Bruins, NHL DraftTyler Seguin, the second overall pick in the 2010 NHL entry draft, agreed to an entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. Official details of the deal were not released, but it's reportedly similar to the contract of first overall selection Taylor Hall of the Edmonton Oilers.

The contract will pay Seguin the maximum base salary of $900,000 per year, with incentives that max out at $3.75 annually.

"These deals aren't overly difficult to do," said Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli during a conference call. "There are some nuances to them. But there's a body of work on No. 2 picks that have signed prior to that. We felt it was time to sign Tyler. He's a high pick. He performed well in our development camp. We thought it was time to sign him to give him peace of mind and make him feel part of the organization."

Seguin, who was born in Ontario, was not part of the conference call as he is in Canada preparing to work with Canada's national junior development camp.

The 18-year-old forward performed very well in July at Boston's developmental camp. Seguin will be given every shot to make the Bruins' opening day roster. Because the Bruins have an abundance of centermen, Seguin will most likely play on the wing if he is to make the team's roster at the beginning of the season. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Commentsgolf tees hiking gear basketball camps
