According to the Boulder Daily Camera, negotiations have broken down between Colorado and the Big 12 on the departing school's departure penalty. Colorado and Nebraska both announced in June they were leaving the conference with the Buffaloes heading to the Pac-10 and the Cornhuskers to the Big Ten.
Nebraska has always maintained it would leave the conference following the 2010-2011 season, while initially Colorado said it would remain and honor the two-year notice requirement in the conference bylaws. But there has been a belief the Big 12 would like to see Colorado leave after this year with Nebraska so that the reconfigured conference could move forward.
That idea, however, has hit a snag because the Big 12 and Colorado can't agree on a figure. According to Big 12 bylaws, any school departing the conference with two years notice must forfeit 50 percent of its conference take for the two years. A school wishing to give one year's notice must forfeit 80 percent of its share. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
