On Tuesday, a group of executives from HBO and NFL Films started poring through hours of footage shot during the first few days of New York Jets training camp, this year's subject of the Emmy Award-winning "Hard Knocks" documentary series.
What the executives won't see is footage of cornerback Darrelle Revis, the All-Pro who is skipping practice in a contract dispute. How much viewers get to see or hear of Revis in the season premiere Aug. 11 at 10 p.m. ET is an interesting question.
Though head coach Rex Ryan has steadfastly maintained that the Jets will have nothing to hide from the NFL Films cameras, contract conflicts between a team and a player, a la the one between the Jets and Revis, are usually the kinds of things management studiously try to keep out of the spotlight -- that is, unless the club wants its point of view emphasized. That could certainly happen in a situation like "Hard Knocks," which is produced by an arm of the National Football League.
