Filed under: FloridaFormer Florida safety John Curtis reportedly has committed suicide at age 24, according to the sports website www.onlygators.com.
The King County Medical Examiner's Office in Seattle confirmed Friday that Curtis died Thursday in Bellevue, Wash., due to multiple injuries, including to his lungs, heart, kidney and liver, and blunt-force injury of the head and torso after jumping from a building in Bellevue, a suburb of Seattle.
According to Bellevue Police Department reports, Curtis leaped to his death at Lincoln Square Center after officers arrived around 8 a.m. following reports of a male sitting on the railing at a downtown restaurant. After officers had brief contact with Curtis, he jumped, TBO.com reported.
Many former Gators and friends of Curtis have tweeted their respects.
One player who took to twitter right away was Cleveland Browns rookie cornerback, Joe Haden. Haden, the No. 7 pick in this year's NFL draft who played with Curtis at Florida, tweeted, "U never know how much u truly love someone until they r gone!! R.I.P John Curtis #24! U will be missed!!!!"
Curtis was a special teams specialist during his time in Gainesville. He played on the Gators' scout team in 2004, sat out 2005 with a knee injury, but was able to play for the team during their 2006 national championship season.
