Padres Regret Passing on Pat Burrell

Filed under: Giants, PadresIt gets old to hear people or teams that miss out on something special to claim they have no regrets and wouldn't have done anything differently. A fine sentiment, certainly, but hey, everybody makes mistakes.

So it's refreshing in a sense to hear the Padres acknowledge one they might have made. There's no way to tell how the NL West or wild card picture would have changed if San Diego had signed Pat Burrell instead of San Francisco, but the Padres wish they'd given it a shot.

"In retrospect, I wish I'd done more than relay Pat Burrell's interest in coming here." Padres CEO Jeff Moorad told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I'm not going to tell (general manager) Jed (Hoyer) what to do and I'm not going to push a particular player on him. (But) in retrospect, I wish I had raised the possibility to a different level." Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
