Filed under: Rangers, Rays, MLB Playoffs, American League Division SeriesST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Texas Rangers won a postseason series for the first time in franchise history Tuesday, downing the Rays 5-1 at Tropicana Field in the deciding fifth game of their American League Division Series.

The Rangers, who had been the only of the 30 franchises never to win a postseason series, have home-field advantage in the American League Championship Series against the Yankees, with Game 1 of the best-of-seven series scheduled for 8:07 p.m. ET Friday at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Cliff Lee ran his career postseason record to 6-0 with his second win of the series. He had won the opener as Texas took a 2-0 lead before dropping two games at home.

This was the first postseason series, of any length, in baseball history in which the road team won every game. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
