SAN FRANCISCO -- The pitching duel that wasn't in Game 1 of the World Series arrived in Thursday's Game 2, at least until the eighth inning.San Francisco's Matt Cain out-pitched Texas lefty C.J. Wilson, then the San Francisco offense poured it on late as the Giants won 9-0 at AT&T Park to take a 2-0 lead in the Fall Classic as it shifts to Texas for Game 3.
Wilson and reliever Darren Oliver kept the Rangers close through seven innings, but the Texas bullpen imploded in the eighth, allowing seven runs as a procession of relievers -- Darren O'Day, Derek Holland, Mark Lowe and Michael Kirkman -- struggled in every facet.
All of the Giants runs in the eighth came with two outs. Buster Posey started things with a single. Nate Schierholtz and Cody Ross followed with walks. Aubrey Huff drew a walk to plate the first run of the inning against Holland. Lowe replaced Holland and walked Uribe to score Schierholtz. An Edgar Renteria single scored two more runs and forced Holland from the game. Kirkman followed and surrendered a triple to Aaron Rowand and a double to Andres Torres, and the rout was on.
