A couple of days after he reportedly took himself out of the running for the job in Florida, Valentine has been told that he's no longer a candidate for the managerial position with the Mariners. Larry Stone of the Seattle Times is reporting Friday that Bobby V has been told by Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik that the team is going in a different direction.
It was thought that Valentine had a good shot at the job because of his previous success in the major leagues as well as his success in Japan, the home country of the Mariners owners. The fact that Ichiro Suzuki made it known that he liked the idea of having Valentine filling out the lineup card also seemed to bode well for the current ESPN analyst's chances.
