Zebra Report: More SEC Controversy

Filed under: Arkansas, Auburn, SEC, OfficiatingWe're roughly halfway through the college football season, and -- as will always be the case -- there's been loads and loads of complaining about the officiating. But I'm starting to notice the biggest legitimate gripes are coming from the vaunted SEC. This is the third straight week where the highest profile officiating controversy came from the boys in the southeast.

Now, just because there are complaints from groups of fans -- especially those whose team came up on the losing end of a close game -- doesn't mean there's something wrong with the officiating. It's much easier to blame a third party than to hold our favorite team accountable. I get it; I'm a fan, too. It's just that most of these biased complaints aren't overly legitimate.

But the screaming about the SEC officiating has been deafening this season. Well, at least as much as Internet chatter can be physically heard. And it seems that some of it is legitimate. That's what really raised my eyebrows.

The subject this week, in case you didn't already know where we were headed, is the Arkansas-Auburn game.

Before we move forward, I feel compelled to point out that generally when your team loses by 22 points, it's awfully difficult to believe the officials were the sole reason you lost. Arkansas has to bear some responsibility in losing a football game in which it allowed 65 points.

Anyway, let's look at the two heavily scrutinized calls. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
