Don Baylor to Be Named Diamondbacks' Hitting Coach

The Diamondbacks set a major league record in 2010, as their hitters struck out a staggering 1,529 times. They'd rather not challenge their own mark next season, and it'll be up to Don Baylor to see that they don't.

Baylor will join manager Kirk Gibson's staff as the hitting coach, according to multiple reports Monday. He spent the last two years in the same role for the Rockies and previously spent time as hitting coach for the Brewers, Cardinals, Braves and Mariners. He also has managed the Rockies and Cubs, and as such will provide Gibson -- still new at the job -- with a seasoned sounding board.

Baylor is expected to get a two-year deal to replace Jack Howell, who had been in the job since May 2009.
