Top-ranked Ohio State lost at Wisconsin on Saturday, and while the loss was hardly Pryor's fault -- he did, after all, lead the Buckeyes in both passing and gross rushing yards for the fifth time in seven games -- he has from day one been miscast in Columbus.
Yes, the junior has shown flashes of the hype that accompanied his recruitment out of Jeannette, Pa., in 2008. Remember, he was the last prep recruit that Penn State coach Joe Paterno actually visited. Then he waited more than a month after national signing day before choosing Ohio State, which had just been to back-to-back national championship games (and lost) over Michigan, which had just hired spread option guru Rich Rodriguez.
Pryor is a talented college QB, and there's no dismissing his performance against Oregon in the Rose Bowl in January (a then career-high 266 yards passing and 72 yards rushing). Still, there's always been a contrived TomKat feel to his marriage with Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel's conservative offensive approach. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
