Both were on the Division Series roster but one had to go to clear a spot for Kyle Kendrick in the longer series against the Giants. The Phillies kept Brown, the 23-year-old with 71 career major league plate appearances, at the expense of Dobbs.
"We just felt like we'd be a better club with Brown," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. told reporters. "It wasn't an easy decision. Both of them bring something to the table. But only 25 guys can be on the roster."
The 32-year-old Dobbs was on the Phillies' NLCS roster the last two years but didn't see action against the Reds in this year's NLDS. A skilled pinch-hitter, he did his best postseason work in 2008, going 7-for-14 with a pair of walks as the Phillies won it all. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
