It took all the way into the fifth week of the NFL schedule, but there's a skirmish going on between a couple of networks over material from their pregame shows.
The combatants are CBS, which reported Sunday that Randy Moss and Tom Brady had to be separated in the New England locker room before Moss was traded last week to Minnesota, and NBC, which has gone to great lengths to knock the story down.
During "The NFL Today," former general manager Charley Casserly, the show's "insider," reported that Brady and Moss went toe-to-toe in the week before the deal. Casserly added that his unnamed sources told him that the two players traded personal insults with Brady telling Moss that he needed to cut his beard, while Moss told Brady to get a haircut because, in his words, the quarterback looked "like a girl."
Later Sunday evening, on NBC's "Football Night in America," in a fairly extraordinary development, Sports Illustrated writer Peter King, who doubles as the show's insider, took to the air to say that two highly-placed sources in the Patriots organization told him that the showdown didn't happen. King added, "In fact, one of them said to me, 'Someone is lying to CBS.' "
In addition, former New England safety Rodney Harrison, who was a teammate of both Moss and Brady, said he didn't believe that it happened and that if it had, news of it would not have gotten out of the Patriots' locker room.
During the week, Moss and Brady have denied the event took place, with Moss commenting after the Vikings' loss to the New York Jets Monday and Brady talking to a Boston radio station Tuesday. Clips of both were gleefully aired on the "Dan Patrick Show," whose host is a co-host of "Football Night in America." During Wednesday's show, Patrick used the phrase "make it up" while speaking of Casserly's report. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
