Boston Bruins Ads Disappearing From Trolleys, Bus Shelters

Versus' new advertising campaign may be working a little too well.

As first reported by DaysOfYorr.com, Boston Bruins fans apparently have taken to the ads so much that they are literally taking the advertisements from bus shelters and trolleys that depict players hopping over the boards in celebration.

"We always aim for our advertising to stand out, really speak to fans and hopefully even be talked about," Bill Bergofin, Versus' senior vice president of marketing and promotion said in an e-mail. "While we don't condone theft at all, we are surprised and delighted that Bruins fans actually want to own it."

Versus put the signage up in Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, either on buses, trolleys or bus shelters. The only market where theft is common appears to be Boston.

It's probably too soon to tell if the ads are working, but Versus is coming off its best opening night since the cable network began carrying the NHL coming out of the lockout in 2005, the league announced on Friday. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
