George Karl's Advice to Carmelo to Keep Fans Happy: 'Sign the Extension'

Filed under: Nuggets, NBA Rumors, NBA PreseasonDENVER -- Nuggets coach George Karl has a sure-fire way Carmelo Anthony can get back in the good graces of the Denver fans.

"Sign the extension,'' Karl said Friday.

The small forward was booed when shown on the video board during a mixed martial arts event Thursday night in suburban Denver. That's because Anthony has yet to sign a three-year, $64.47 million extension offer that is on the table, which could lead to him being dealt by the February trade deadline.

How the fans treat a hesitant Anthony while he's in a Nuggets jersey won't first be known until Denver plays its first preseason game next Friday against Portland at the Pepsi Center.

"I think the fans have always been respectful here, and they want us to be the best basketball team,'' Karl said when asked what might happen with Anthony next Friday. "I think all cities want their players to be loyal to the city. So I think you're probably going to see both. So there's going to be some 'Melo love and some 'Melo hangup.'' Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
