And yet, the Sharks still have to prove that they can score on the road. They have been blanked in each of their past three road games, and they have yet to score more than two goals in any official road game. (San Jose scored three times in a season-opening win over Columbus in Sweden -- but the game was technically the Sharks' home game.)
Even as his team has struggled to score on the road, Sharks coach Todd McLellan had emphasized that the team had plenty of scoring opportunities, which is what he most wanted to see. "The goals will come eventually," he said after the last two shutouts on the road. Then, when San Jose put in the puck with greater regularity at home, McLellan said that the Sharks still had the many opportunities -- and they were coming with more men in front of the net.
