AUBURN, Ala. -- Guard Mike Berry has been working alongside Cam Newton for months now and knows exactly what to expect on game day.
The Auburn quarterback likes to laugh. He likes to smile.
Football is supposed to be fun, right?
Still, the Tigers' 49-31 win over Georgia on Saturday gave teammates a new view of Newton's inner being. The controversy surrounding him didn't taint the joy or the excellence Newton displays each time he takes the field, but there was an edge to him that didn't exist before Saturday.
"I saw a fire in his eyes," Berry said.
Georgia felt the burn.
Newton again showed why he's the most valuable player in college football, effortlessly altering his contributions to match what his team needed most. When the Bulldogs deployed unusual fronts to confuse the Auburn linemen, Newton went to the air.
