As the Cam Newton fiasco continues to trap more and more entities in its gravitational pull, I'm starting to wonder if I should care that the Big Ten doesn't win national titles.Nothing's been proven in this latest case, but the SEC remains the only league where a fanbase used the Freedom of Information Act to try to force a head coach to start a different quarterback. It's the only league where a zealous fan brought suit to try to force the NCAA to impose the death penalty on his school's greatest rival. It's the only league where a coach had to take part in Media Days by speakerphone for fear of a subpoena.
If 41-14 is the price Big Ten fans have to pay in order to avoid drinking the SEC's cup of Machiavellian lunacy, you all can keep the crystal football.
Right. The games.
Minnesota at Illinois
Zook! Horton! In a clash of traditional Big Ten non-powers! Scheelhaase! Weber! You don't know who those two guys are! But you'll watch this game, because your TV is tuned to BTN ALT 1 and you don't know where the remote is! Too bad you already raked the leaves, isn't it? Illinois 34, Minnesota 16.
