On the theory that sports fans have an inalienable right to watch their teams, regardless of disputes between suppliers and providers, a group of fans has begun an online petition drive aimed at blocking the mammoth merger of Comcast and NBC-Universal.According to the Oregonian, the Sports Fans Coalition, a Washington-based group that purports to represent the interest of sports fans, has asked state lawmakers to put a halt to Comcast's planned acquisition of NBC. That is, until Comcast does right by Portland Trail Blazers supporters and allows those of them who have DIrect TV, Dish Network or Charter Communications to see Blazers games aired on Comcast Sports Northwest.
It seems that 55 Blazers games this season will air on CSN, which is not offered on non-Comcast carriers. The dispute between Comcast and the other carriers has gone on for three years without any signs of relenting on either side.
The petition claims that sports fans "should be allowed to see my local games, regardless of how I get my media. Anything short of that is not enough."
