2010 NFL Thanksgiving Day: Patriots vs. Lions Preview

Patriots vs. Lions ThanksgivingOn paper, the NFL's Thanksgiving Day opener doesn't look like much of a battle. The 8-2 Patriots, tied for first in the AFC East, head into Detroit fresh off wins over Pittsburgh and New England. Waiting for them at Ford Field is a 2-8 Lions team, losers of three straight -- not to mention of six straight on Thanksgiving.

But the Lions have been extremely competitive at home this year, putting up a 2-2 record with wins over Washington and St. Louis, and near-misses against Philadelphia and the Jets.

Add in the timing of this game for New England -- sandwiched between that aforementioned Pittsburgh-Indy back-to-back and a huge Monday night showdown with the Jets -- and we might all get more than we bargained for to kick off the NFL's Turkey Day slate.

What to look for in Thursday's Patriots-Lions game:
