Monday Movers: Francesco Molinari Goes Start to Finish in Shanghai

Francesco MolinariEach week, Monday Movers will look back on the previous week in the golf world to see whose stock is rising and who will likely be heading back to the range.

On the Rise

Francesco Molinari -- Molinari took all of the drama out of the WGC-HSBC Champions when he went wire-to-wire for his fourth career win. It was just the fifth wire-to-wire winner in the 11-year history of the World Golf Championship series. He also became the first Italian winner of a WGC event and did so with a bogey-free, final-round 67. While Molinari has enjoyed success on the European Tour, this is his first win since 2006, and it moves him into the top 15 in the world.

Lee Westwood -- Although he entered the week as the newly crowned No. 1 player in the world, Westwood wasn't the favorite to keep that title when the weekend began. That's only because he has been battling a calf injury and only competed in one tournament since the Ryder Cup at the beginning of October. Without a win on the European Tour this season, Westwood seemed to have his work cut out for him, but he answered the challenge emphatically. The Englishman finished one stroke behind first and nine strokes ahead of third and increased his lead over Tiger Woods in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Jiyai Shin -- The top-ranked player on the women's side also finished at 18-under par this week, but that was enough for a two-stroke win at the Mizuno Classic in Japan. It was her second LPGA Tour title of the season and eighth for her career. The South Korean star held off two-time 2010 major winner Yani Tseng with a bogey-free final round that included birdies on all four par 5s. The win moves Shin to within $4,000 of first place on the money list.
