Rays Tighten Up in Game 1 Setback

Filed under: Rangers, Rays, MLB Playoffs, American League Division SeriesST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Rays went into the playoffs with postseason experience from 2008 and the best record in the American League this season despite playing in the tough AL East.

But despite all that, and playing at home before a sellout crowd, and manager Joe Maddon's ability to keep things loose, Tampa Bay played tight in its Game 1 loss to the Rangers.

At least according to cleanup hitter Evan Longoria.

He said he has seen that "rarely ever" from this generally young team.

"I just thought that we just kind of pressed just a little bit," Longoria told FanHouse. "And for a team that's been here before, a team that has experience in this kind of environment, it was just a little bit uncharacteristic of us." Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
