Pistons Lose Jonas Jerebko, Terrico White to Injury

Filed under: NBA Injuries, NBA PreseasonNobody expected the Detroit Pistons to be anything more than sacrificial lambs on Tuesday night, feckless foils for the Miami Heat in the most highly-anticipated preseason game in NBA history.

Unfortunately, the Pistons left Miami with more than just bruised egos. According to reports, second-year forward Jonas Jerebko tore his Achilles' tendon and could miss five months, and rookie guard Terrico White fractured his right foot and is sidelined indefinitely.

Jerebko's injury is the most disconcerting. A second-round pick out of Sweden last year, Jerebko surprised everyone by not just carving out a significant spot in the rotation but also leading the team in starts. He averaged 9.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in 27.9 minutes a game, seeing time at both forward spots.

The Pistons certainly have enough bodies to replace Jerebko -- rookie Greg Monroe could absorb his minutes at the power forward spot, as could veterans Charlie Villanueva, Jason Maxiell and Chris Wilcox -- but fans were eager to see what Jerebko could do in his second season.

He earned minutes as an energetic role player his rookie year, but he thrived in a featured role with his national team during EuroBasket qualifying this summer, averaging 25 points and 12.3 rebounds in eight games. Instead of continuing that development this season, he'll spend much -- and perhaps most -- of the season on the sidelines. Matt Dery of 97.1 FM, the Pistons flagship station, revealed on Twitter that Jerebko will miss at least two to three months, while Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press indicated he could miss as many as five.

White's injury, while unfortunate, likely won't affect Detroit's plans. Despite being a tremendous athlete, the second-round pick out of Ole Miss is still rough around the edges and was buried on the depth chart by Rip Hamilton, Ben Gordon, Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

  1. Toe Raises - This exercise increases vertical leap by strengthening your calf muscle. For this exercise use a toe raise machine in a gym or simply use a thick piece of wood at home. Start with your heels hanging off the ledge and raise up to your tip toes. Then lower as far as your can and raise back up. You start with no weight or use dumbbells. This vertical jump training is very usefull.
