Dwyane Wade Leaves Early With Strained Hamstring

Filed under: Heat, NBA Injuries, NBA PreseasonMIAMI -- It didn't take long for the first sobering reminder that all these runaway expectations surrounding the Miami Heat are based on one very important assumption: staying healthy.

Only three minutes and 15 seconds into the first exhibition game of this new Miami era, Heat fans did a collective groan when Dwyane Wade left with a strained right hamstring.

He had not even broken a sweat.

The first chance to see Wade play alongside LeBron James and Chris Bosh - Miami's much-ballyhooed additions - was over before many of the fans had settled into their seats.

Wade was not expected to return. He left the game after his second turnover. Although his injury was not expected to be serious, it sucked some of the life out of a much-anticipated exhibition opener. Three kings are better than two.

He'll be re-evaluated in about a week, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.

"Like I told him, if we're going to have an injury, I'd rather have it now than to have it when we really get started," said James, who added that Wade has been receiving treatment on the hamstring for a few days.

Even before he left, though, it became clear what the pecking order was for Miami's new collection of talent.
