Rays vs. Rangers: Lifeless Tampa Bay Falls Into 2-0 Hole

Filed under: Rangers, Rays, MLB Playoffs, American League Division SeriesThe Tampa Bay Rays are on the verge of crashing out of the postseason after falling to the Texas Rangers 6-0 in Game 2 of the American League Division Series.

C.J. Wilson pitched 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball and the Rangers bullpen did the rest of the work as Texas blanked Tampa Bay. The Rays have just one run in the first two games of the series.

Ian Kinsler had a solo home run in the fifth inning, and veteran third baseman Michael Young belted a three-run blast in the fifth after a controversial check-swing call to put Game 2 far out of reach from Tampa Bay.

James Shields, a surprise starter for Rays manager Joe Maddon given his struggles this season, lasted 4 1/3 innings and surrendered four earned runs in an uneven performance that included two hit by pitches. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
