New ESPN Channels Flow From Disney-Time Warner Deal

by Milton KentFiled under: Sports Business, Sports Business and Media Cable subscribers in New York, Los Angeles, Tampa, Orlando, Texas, Ohio and the Research Triangle area of North Carolina will receive ESPN3.com and a pair of highlight channels as a part of a deal brokered between Disney and Time Warner Cable ahead of a Thursday deadline to continue carriage of the company's channels and owned stations.

The two sides agreed to create and carry ESPN Goal Line, a once-a-week channel that bears a strong resemblance to Direct TV's popular NFL-oriented RedZone Channel. During the college football season, the new channel will move viewers to compelling game action and scoring drives, along with commentary. During college basketball season, a channel called ESPN Buzzer Beater will operate, serving a similar function. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
