Bobby Ryan Signs Five-Year Contract With Anaheim

Filed under: DucksAfter a summer of waiting, the Anaheim Ducks and restricted free agent Bobby Ryan finally agreed to a five-year contract on Tuesday worth a reported $25.5 million, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. The new deal makes him one of Anaheim's highest-paid players and carries an annual cap hit of just over $5 million per season.

On the surface, it's a similar deal to the one Ryan turned down earlier this summer.

Ryan, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2005 draft, has played parts of three season in the NHL, scoring 71 goals in 168 career games, while eclipsing the 30-goal mark twice. The 23-year-old winger is coming off a 2009-10 campaign that saw him score a team-high 35 goals in 81 games with Anaheim. The second-leading scorer on the club had 27 (a tie between Corey Perry and Teemu Selanne).

Now that Ryan's deal has finally been completed, the Ducks have their three core forwards (Ryan Getzlaf, Perry and Ryan ... all of whom are age 25 or younger) locked up through at least the 2012-13 season for a combined cap hit of about $15 million per season, via CapGeek. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments
