Furyk bought the "Yes! Sophia" putter from Joe & Leigh's Discount Golf Pro Shop at Pine Oaks Golf Course in Easton, Mass., earlier this month. He first bought the putter after a visit to the shop following the third round of the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, The Enterprise of Brockton first reported.
According to The Boston Globe, the $39 used putter Furyk bought off the discount shelf was traded in by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Szep, who worked as an editorial cartoonist for the Globe from 1967-2001. A longtime shopper at Joe & Leigh's, Szep is a self-professed putter addict -- "estimating the number in his possession at any one time at roughly 100," according to the Globe.
