LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- In an effort to better keep Josh Hamilton in the lineup, the Rangers would like to keep him out of center field in the future, manager Ron Washington said Monday.Julio Borbon will man center field moving forward, Washington said, and the hope is that Hamilton will suffer less of a pounding night in and night out by sticking to left field.
"We have younger personnel that can handle the position better and keep (Hamilton) fresh," Washington said. "It's wear and tear. We want to keep him in the lineup as much as possible."
Hamilton has been sidelined more than once during his time with Texas after colliding with the outfield wall, most notably sitting out almost all of September this year after his most serious run-in. Injuries in general have been a problem for Hamilton, who played 156 games in 2008 but has missed large chunks of time in his other three big league seasons.
