The A's finally landed a free agent Tuesday, signing designated hitter Hideki Matsui to a one-year deal.Matsui will make $4.25 million plus possible incentives for Oakland -- a notable cut from the $6 million he made in putting together a solid season as the Angels' DH in 2010. The 36-year-old hit .271 with 21 homers, 84 RBI and an .820 OPS in Anaheim before diving back into free agency.
Matsui was set to be introduced at a press conference in Oakland on Tuesday.
The A's previously made bids for Lance Berkman, who signed with St. Louis, and Adrian Beltre, who remains a free agent in search of greener pastures.
Matsui reportedly enjoyed life on the West Coast after a seven-year stint with the Yankees from 2003-09 and should provide a much-needed boost for Oakland's offense.
